The Mamas and the Papas are one of my favorite bands of the sixties. Everything about them just feels like summer. I can never not be happy whilst listening to their beachy, sun-drenched harmonies. But I'll admit that possibly the biggest reason why I am so enamoured with the Mamas and the Papas is because I have a total "girl-crush" on Michelle Phillips. Maybe Cass and Denny had the better voices and John was the principal songwriter, but how could one help but fall in love with Michelle? Besides the fact that she was - and is still- absolutely gorgeous (I was once told that I looked like her and it was the highlight of my life), but she was the perfect California girl, emanated the flower child spirit, and managed to survive the excesses of the sixties -and the madness of life with her somewhat crazy husband- and emerge with strength and grace. Plus, she had a fabulous laid-back style. And did I mention that she is absolutely beautiful?
